What We Do

faith-based equine-assisted learning

At Angel Wings Ranch, we  partner clients with horses to promote healthy life skills and stimulate positive behavioral changes.  This process is called Equine Assisted Learning, or EAL.

Customized sessions

At Angel Wings Ranch, each session is designed specifically for that client. Depending on what the client's goals are, he or she will interact with the horse and provide overall care, such as feeding, grooming, and riding. Clients are taught to set goals, develop a plan, implement the plan, achieve the goal, and analyze the outcomes. The interactive lessons with horses allow clients to self-discover and improve their processes to achieve the best possible outcome. Between sessions, clients may be given exercises to work on at home to strengthen their new skills.

benefits

EAL has tremendous results and benefits, with participants developing skills such as emotional awareness, assertiveness, social skills, confidence, trust in self, trust in others, empathy, impulse control, problem-solving, and developing and maintaining relationships.

why horses?

Horses require people to be engaged in  both physical and mental work to be successful - a valuable metaphor and skill in all aspects of life.

Meet Our Horses

Horses are social animals, which means their behaviors can be very similar to humans:

  • They have defined roles within their herds...just like humans
  • They would often rather be with their peers...just like humans
  • They have distinct personalities, attitudes, and moods...just like humans
  • At times they seem stubborn and defiant...just like humans
  • They like to have fun...just like humans

Why does this matter?

Working with horses provides many opportunities for metaphorical learning. If a client accomplishes a task involving a giant horse, that develops skill and confidence in the client for accomplishing tasks in the "real world" or with people. Using the horse and his behavior for discussion or activity is an effective technique, providing wonderful metaphors for the client when dealing with other intimidating and challenging situations in life.
